The anchor on the parade ground came from the U.S.S. Coral Sea, an aircraft carrier. The Citadel received it in 1971 through the efforts of Col. Eugene Foxworth, U.S.M.C., head of The Citadel's Navy R.O.T.C. unit at the time, and Citadel graduate, Class of 1950. The weight is 17,000 lbs. (HN)
