No Citadel graduate has ever received the Congressional Medal of Honor. Retired BG J.T. Kennedy was awarded the Medal of Honor in the Philippine Islands campaign of 1909. Although he did not graduate from The Citadel, he was a member of the Class of 1907. He attended The Citadel from 1903-1904, his freshman year, and then transferred to the United States Military Academy, graduating in 1908.

Admiral Stockdale, President of The Citadel, 1979-1980, received the Congressional Medal of Honor and was a member of the French Legion of Honor.
